Volunteer as a Community Connector

You may wish to get involved in your community by becoming a Community Connector or by volunteering with a local group or charity. 

Local organisations can also put forward volunteers for Community Connector training.

Becoming a Community Connector

You do not need any formal qualifications to volunteer as a Community Connector.

We are looking for people who:

• are friendly and approachable
• have good communication skills
• are interested in helping others
• have some knowledge of their local area (or are willing to learn) 

Training and support

If you become a Community Connector, you will receive training to help you carry out your role safely and confidently.

Training covers:

• active listening skills
• how to signpost residents to services safely and appropriately
• using the Connect to Support directories
• understanding boundaries and safeguarding 

The training will build on your strengths and help you to support a wide range of residents.

You will also:

• have access to guidance and resources
• be invited to training sessions and networking opportunities
• receive support from the programme team and other connectors

Volunteering with a local group or charity

There are volunteering opportunities across Elmbridge.  You may be interested in getting involved with: 

• community gardening - help maintain shared gardens, parks or green spaces
• befriending calls - make regular phone calls to someone who may feel isolated
• event support - welcome guests, help set up or support local activities
• driving or delivery help - help residents get to appointments or deliver essentials
• food support - help pack, sort or deliver food parcels for local residents
• admin support - support a local group with emails, forms, promotion or planning
